Beck Cultural Exchange Center Eighth of August Red-Carpet Reception and Film

The Beck Cultural Exchange Center will hold a red carpet reception and film screening of “William H. Hastie: Good & Noble” as part of the 8th of August Jubilee. William H. Hastie was born in Knoxville on Nov. 17, 1904, and is considered one of the most influential and highest-ranking Black officials at the turn of the century from his appointment as a U.S. District judge to civilian aide to the Secretary of War to governor of the Virgin Islands. Special guests include Hastie’s son, William H. Hastie, who proudly carries his father’s name, and musician, vocalist, and storyteller Kelle Jolly. A VIP reception will begin at 4 p.m. Doors open for general admission at 5:30 p.m., and the program begins at 6 p.m.
