Marble City Opera: ShadowLight World Premiere
Marble City Opera will present the world premiere of ShadowLight, which tells the story of celebrated, Knoxville-born, African-American painter Beauford Delaney, who left the segregated South for the freedom of the Harlem Renaissance and Bohemian Paris. He was adored by famous singers, actors and writers, foremost among them his “spiritual son,” the writer James Baldwin. Plagued by poverty and schizophrenia, Delaney still filled hundreds of canvases with joy and hope. His journey out of darkness is a testament to the courage of a gifted man who found in the mystical marriage of color and shape the healing grace of love.
The debut is Feb. 28 with a second performance on Feb. 29 at 7:30 p.m. Attire is dressy, cocktail or black tie optional. Tickets are available HERE.
