Moxley Carmichael KSO Masterworks Series: Tchaikovsky’s Fourth and Cycle of Life – CANCELED

May 14, 2020 @ 7:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. |

(As a proactive measure against the COVID-19 virus, this event has been canceled.)

When Aram Demirjian first observed Richard Jolley’s massive glass art installation, “Cycle of Life: Within the Power of Dreams and the Wonder of Infinity” at the Knoxville Museum of Art (KMA), his immediate thought was: “This is begging to be turned into a piece of music!” Composer Michael Schachter, following the success of his “Overture to Knoxville,” took on the large scale project. Violin Concerto: Cycle of Life will follow the same spiritual journey of Jolley’s work, in a musical dialogue between the individual (the violinist) and the universal (the orchestra). Violin Concerto: Cycle of Life has been jointly commissioned by the KSO and the KMA. Philippe Quint returns to Knoxville as soloist for the world premiere performance. The towering program will conclude with Tchaikovsky’s passionate Symphony No. 4, considered to be his “Fate” symphony.

Bernstein: Fancy Free: Three Dance Episodes
Schachter: Violin Concerto: Cycle of Life (world premiere)
Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 4
