Magra is a professor of early American history at the University of Tennessee and the director of the Center for the Study of Tennesseans and War at the Department of History. Blount Mansion Book Release: Tennessee Samplers: Female Education & Domestic Arts
Blount Mansion will host a book release for "Tennessee Samplers, Female Education & Domestic Arts, 1800-1900," by Jennifer Core and Janet Hasson. Core will speak about highlights of the book, which is a study of samplers – embroideries that are “first attempts at a new technique, color combination, or unusual material" – and provides vivid descriptions of a 19th century Tennessee art form in its many varieties.
